Three-time award winner Jokic endures a 'devastating' knee injury.
Thrice-crowned National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Jokic suffered a "gut-wrenching" knee injury when the Denver Nuggets lost by a score of 147-123 at the Heat.
The star player was hurt towards the end of the second quarter during an inadvertent collision with fellow Nugget Spencer Jones.
The other player landed on the footwear of Jokic, and he promptly fell to the court clutching his knee.
The veteran player, who is leading the NBA this season in rebounds and assists, posted a score of 21 points and eight dimes in the matchup prior to sustaining the setback.
The player is scheduled for an scan on Tuesday to assess the extent of the issue.
"Immediately, he understood he was hurt," commented Nuggets head coach Adelman.
"This is part of the NBA. Any player that suffers an injury, it's difficult, most notably somebody as special as he is. We'll find out more tomorrow."
"We will continue as a team. Obviously, at this moment, I am more worried just about him personally and the disappointment of going through something like that."
