The former Liverpool manager says rejoining to coach Liverpool is theoretically possible.
The German coach, who stepped down from Anfield in 2024, remarked that a future comeback is a possibility. Klopp, following a hugely successful nine-season tenure which brought a European Cup triumph and the Reds’ first league title for three decades, now holds positions as head of global soccer for Red Bull and as an advisor for the DFL.
Fan Sentiment and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
The club claimed the Premier League last season, but many fans who adore the manager would embrace the possibility that he may eventually return. In a wide-ranging interview, he told his interviewer: “I said I will never coach another team in England. Therefore in case it's my former club...yeah. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“At 58 years old, that means I might decide down the line, I don’t know. Must I choose now? If so, I wouldn't return. Luckily, it's not necessary. I'll simply watch what the future brings.”
Conditions for a Comeback
When asked about what circumstances would need to occur to draw him back to management, Klopp admitted he was not instantly drawn for a comeback. “It's unclear to me, My present work fulfills me,” he stated. “I don’t miss coaching; I avoid standing during downpours for two-and-a-half or three hours; I'm glad to skip media briefings multiple times weekly or constant media duties weekly.
“I don’t miss the dressing room per se, but sitting in a restaurant with the players enjoying conversation, I appreciate that. We won a lot of games thus frequently a very good mood at the club. I still have Van Dijk's laughter in my ear as an instance.”
Commending Arne Slot
He spoke highly of the current boss, praising him for the tweaks which secured the championship last campaign. Liverpool have lost a string of losses across various tournaments following significant transfers, though he denied the idea it could be the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker like Florian Wirtz, critics will regret if you use the wrong words. An outstanding player. [Hugo] Ekitike, excellent performer. This is a well-built thoughtfully assembled roster. Fans shouldn't fret about Liverpool, they will be fine.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
He shared movingly regarding the passing of Jota, a 2020 acquisition during his tenure, and the effect for the team. The Portugal international was killed in a car crash alongside his brother recently.
“How do you replace somebody like Diogo? This isn't just regarding his on-field talent, it’s the guy he was. It's hard to picture the squad absent his presence. I still cannot speak properly regarding this. It was an incredible shock for the entire squad also. No one within the club might employ it as an excuse but it is the situation. Being in that space which he filled completely. Dealing with that on a personal level is difficult. Impossible.”
