The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Sets The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story movie debuted, establishing the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing viewers to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a brief look into the plot but leaving fans curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
The preview shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser avoids is what Woody is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting giveaway items find good homes.
Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge attached to her shirt.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
