Fashion legend Antony Price, the groundbreaking style architect responsible for many legendary styles worn by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has passed away aged 80.

He was celebrated for his sculptured silhouettes and theatrical styles, such as the light-hued ensembles that appeared in the iconic band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "the song Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance on social media."

This news arrives less than a month after he debuted his newest line in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Artist Lily Allen showcased a dress inspired by the notorious black velvet "revenge dress" historically worn by the late Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price moved to London during the sixties to attend the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he started his work in men's fashion at the company Stirling Copper and was responsible for the tight, button-detailed trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger wore during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He founded his own label in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show opened with creations worn by the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the wedding dress Price created for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A frequent collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price designed the memorable jacket the star wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to fuse elements of men's and women's fashion along with his masterful technique in shaping form-fitting garments cemented his status as a "one-of-a-kind talent," according to the UK's fashion authority.

In the 1990s, he commenced designing ensembles for Camilla, now Queen Consort, such as several ensembles for her US tour following her marriage.

With a vocation that covered over fifty years, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London just last month in conjunction with the design house 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Theatrical Flair: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

The industry laments the passing to a authentic original whose influence on the visual landscape of music remains profoundly felt.
