Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Munich was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant boost to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United appear to be building momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
