LA Erupts in Celebration as Dodgers Secure Second World Series Victory
The City of Angels experienced citywide celebrations after the Dodgers won a thrilling seven-match World Series championship. Supporters worldwide joined local residents in jubilation, marking the first time in a quarter-century that a team has achieved back-to-back championships.
Victory Parade Attracts Enormous Crowds
Local events included a downtown parade on the morning of the parade, a ticketed rally at Dodger Stadium, and impromptu gatherings throughout the city.
Online footage show countless of Los Angeles residents flooding downtown streets, many displaying homemade signs and team flags. The squad was seen riding high on a open-top bus through the crowds, hoisting the championship trophy high.
“My focus is already about the next championship we’re going to achieve this,” Shohei Ohtani remarked through an translator.
The parade route ended at Dodger Stadium, where the team emerged to Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” with DJ Mustard providing music and Ice Cube cruising a Pacific blue vintage Cadillac around the field.
Early Celebrations and Player Reactions
Celebrations started well before the procession, with supporters lighting fireworks in the streets of Downtown Los Angeles on the previous evening.
The World Series MVP, awarded the World Series’ Most Valuable Player, spoke directly about the victory.
“We refuse to lose,” he stated. “I adore this team. I love Los Angeles.”
Mixed Reactions and City Unity
In contrast, the team owner was met with a cooler welcome at the celebration. Video footage from the event appear to show him walking onstage to a mix of applause and jeers, with jeers interrupting his address.
The championship acted as a bright spot in what has been a challenging year for Los Angeles. An approximate quarter-million people showed up to the championship parade last year, and according to team member Freddie Freeman, supporters this year showed equal or greater enthusiasm.
“It seems it’s almost double from last year,” Freeman remarked. “The supporters are incredible. It’s so awesome to be a part of this.”
