Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Incident
New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and feels certain the athlete will recover well after being shot in midtown Manhattan in the early hours of Sunday.
Glenn described that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “in good spirits” during their recent conversation.
“What reassures me, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn commented. “His wife and his kid, they are holding up and he is expected to recover fully.”
Glenn was unsure when Boyd might be released the medical facility, where his condition is described as in critical but steady condition.
“Not certain at the moment,” the coach said. “Yet I must mention, just talking to him, he felt really upbeat. Furthermore, that’s what gives me comfort, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.”
Authorities issued security footage earlier this week of a man sought in the incident involving Boyd. The reason behind the incident remains under investigation and police mentioned it’s not clear if Boyd was the intended victim. There were no additional victims according to reports.
The incident occurred in the early morning on Sunday near MSG and Times Square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was taken to Bellevue Hospital after being shot in the abdomen, according to authorities. The shooter fled the scene.
Glenn mentioned Boyd has been in his thoughts “a great deal” since the news broke. He further stated that Boyd and his wife recently welcomed a baby.
“What immediately crossed my mind, he recently became a father,” Glenn noted. “I thought of his spouse, considering his child and I hope he recovers fully. That was my main concern.
“There is a procedure involved, which I won’t get into, but It is reassuring that his outcome looks very positive.”
Boyd was inactive in the present campaign, after joining the team, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on August 18 with an injury to his shoulder that involved surgical repair.
He signed with New York as a new signing in March and was expected to be an important component of an improved special teams group under the coach and ST coordinator the special teams coach. However, he got hurt during a practice session on August 2 and was carted from the field.
Boyd continued to be present during the entire campaign while recovering from the shoulder injury.
“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn stated. “Certainly, he attends every game. He’s fully engaged. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”
Boyd, from Texas, played his first four seasons with Minnesota after his selection in the later rounds by the Vikings out of UT in the 2019 draft. He joined the Arizona Cardinals in last year and moved to Houston’s squad later that season. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal for $1.6 million with the Jets in March.
