Followers Urge Arrest of Man Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Loyal supporters of the actress are urging that a person who jumped a barrier and seized the actress during yesterday's Wicked: For Good launch be detained or removed from Singapore.
A viral clip depicts the Australian man bypassing photographers and rushing toward Grande while the cast walked down a promenade flanked by onlookers.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo immediately wrested the shocked actress away from Mr Wen, who was observed being led away of the event by event staff.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "free after being arrested", though legal records indicated that he was due to be present on the next day. It is uncertain if he was faced legal action.
Record of Incidents
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Controversial Figure", has disrupted a performance. His Instagram account includes videos of him disturbing other celebrity events, including breaching the performance area at the pop singer's Sydney show in recently and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers performance in the area last December.
"There needs to be action enforced against him as this is clearly a punishable act," stated an Instagram commenter, in a reply to a video Mr Wen shared of his act.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" another Instagram user wrote.
Supporters Voice Worry Over Grande's Well-being
Many supporters criticized Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had discussed suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a devastating incident at the end of her May 2017 show in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and harming numerous individuals.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" wrote one more comment on Instagram.
Some attendees also questioned guards at the Thursday event for not being sufficiently alert; while different individuals called for social media platforms to remove Mr Wen's videos.
Reaction and Event Details
In footage shared widely, Grande looked surprised when she was approached by the intruder. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen comforting her while Mr Wen was removed by staff.
Grande has not commented on the event, and the rest of the event continued without further issues.
Many of supporters had congregated in a crowd of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good regional debut in a Singapore shopping center, including some who had stood in line for as long as eight hours before it began.
The movie, to be launched on November 21, is the second of a dual version of the acclaimed Broadway and West End production Wicked, which revolves around the unlikely bond between two contrasting characters.
The musical itself is a spin-off of the 1900 children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the character Glinda Glinda, was decked out in a light pink glittering gown at the premiere while Erivo, who portrays the Elphaba, wore a black tube gown decorated with roses.
They were joined by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the highest-grossing movie of 2024 in the UK, and earned ten award recognitions, earning several for best costume and artistic direction.
