England Coach Southee Unsure on Ashes Participation
The bowler's last Test for New Zealand was against England in the final month of 2024.
England fast-bowling advisor Tim Southee is still working through what his involvement will be at the forthcoming Ashes series in the host nation.
The ex- Kiwi seamer is expected to be available for the first Test due to his participation in the ILT20 competition, which begins on December 2 in the UAE.
Southee, 36, assumed a position as the English team's pace bowling advisor in the warmer months after claiming 391 scalps in 107 Test matches for the Kiwis.
Commenting as the English squad for the opening of three T20 matches against New Zealand was announced, he stated of his participation: "We are still evaluating the situation at the moment.
"We will determine what happens over the next little while."
English pace icon Broad had stated the Australian side as their "weakest squad since 2010", but Southee was in no uncertainty over what to expect during the contest, which starts on November 21.
"In my view there's at any time a poor Aussie side," he remarked.
"Our focus is squarely on our own objectives. In my opinion the caliber of [England's] team that's going out to Australia is excellent.
"It should be an absolute cracker, the Ashes. Not only [are|do] English and Australian people eagerly anticipate it, I think the entire cricketing community is."
However, prior to the English team travel to the city of Perth for the opening Ashes Test, they take on the Kiwis in Christchurch on this Saturday.
